Causes of profuse night sweating
Severe sweating at night does not always indicate serious problems. Often this is only the reaction of the body to high air temperature or a banal infection like ARVI or influenza. Anxiety should be beaten in the event that increased sweating at night is systematic.
Common causes of excessive sweating at night are:
– Lung tuberculosis;
– liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis;
– Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, gastroesophageal reflux or inflammation of the large intestine
– diabetes mellitus
– disorders in the immune system;
– cardiovascular diseases, such as microinsult or ischemia;
– oncohematological diseases, for example, leukemia or Hodgkin`s lymphoma.
Increased night sweats are rarely the only symptom of the disease, but sometimes it is the first bell that indicates the presence of certain problems in the body. That`s why when you have such a problem, you should not postpone your visit to a doctor.
Increased sweating at night is also characteristic of women during menopause. This condition is not pathology and does not require treatment.
How to cope with increased sweating alone
If after a medical examination there were no serious health problems, you can try to cope with increased sweating on your own. It is important to monitor physical activity, especially 2-3 hours before bedtime. They not only promote sweating, but also increase nervous excitement. The same effect has a hot shower, and therefore with increased night sweats it is necessary to replace it with a cool one or to transfer water procedures to an earlier time.
For the same reasons, it is worthwhile to refrain from drinking hot food and drinks before bed. Alcohol is also contraindicated.
It is important to ensure that the air temperature in the room does not exceed 20 degrees, and not only in winter, but also in summer. When using air conditioners and fans, it is important to additionally moisten the air, as its dryness can also cause increased sweating.
